First elected as Member of Parliament in 2019, Raquel’s straightforward and compassionate style of politics has made her an effective and dedicated advocate for her constituents of Kildonan—St. Paul, and Canadians across the country.

Raquel is the Shadow Minister for Public Safety and serves as the Vice Chair of the Public Safety and National Security Committee. Her portfolio includes the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Correctional Service Canada (CSC), and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

As Shadow Minister for Public Safety, Raquel has met and worked with various police forces and other frontline public safety personnel. Through these meetings, Raquel has learned of the needs of those we entrust with our protection, the homeless community, and those working to make our streets safer. The issues of reducing crime, supporting police forces and community organizations, and addressing the key drivers of poverty and crime, remain key issues as Raquel continues in her position as Member of Parliament for Kildonan—St. Paul and as Shadow Minister for Public Safety.

Serving the community

As a Member of Parliament, Raquel works tirelessly as an advocate for Canada’s law-abiding firearm owners, victims of violent crime, and Canadians across the country who are struggling financially under Trudeau’s government.

In Ottawa, Raquel successfully led the fight against Bill C-21 and pressured the Liberals to abandon the largest hunting rifle ban in Canadian history. She also brought to light the political interference of the Minister of Public Safety and the RCMP Commissioner into the investigation of the 2020 Nova Scotia Mass Murder. Raquel fought to ensure the integrity of the investigation and the protection of the rights of the victims. Raquel has been a consistent advocate for women’s rights, standing up for victims of domestic violence and speaking out on the challenges faced bye women in the military.

Since her election as Member of Parliament, Raquel has served as the Shadow Minister for Diversity, Inclusion and Youth as well as Shadow Minister for Immigration. She has served as the Vice-Chair of multiple committees including: Public Safety and National Security; Human Resources and Social Development; Citizenship and Immigration; and Status of Women.
